Create a Segment

Steps to create a Segment using Lemnisk Marketing Automation Platform.

Create a Segment

Step 1: Click on Add Segment Click “+Add Segment” to create a new segment.

Step 2: Select the Segment type In order to create a Segment, you must choose a segment type. At Lemnisk, there are three segment types:

  1. Existing User: Users who have already visited your website or app once. For these users, Lemnisk CDP has at least one of these parameters - cookie ID, device ID, PII information, etc.

  2. First-Time Visitor: Users who are visiting your website or app for the first time. For these users, Lemnisk CDP doesn't have any information yet.

  3. Journey Builder: If you want to build automated journeys to target users, use the Journey Builder segment.

Step 3: Enter Segment details

  1. Name: Name your Segment. It must be unique and range from 6-25 characters.

  2. Segment Priority: A marketer can prioritize a segment considering the priority of that segment. Users who fall within two high-priority segments will be prioritized for campaigns held in those segments. It is medium by default. The user can alter as required from the highest to low priority position.

  3. Tags: The addition of descriptive keywords to a segment allows for easier analysis and helps to organize segments with similar identification. You can add multiple tags to a segment. It is also possible for you to add your own tags. To know more click here.

  4. All Users Segment: If the segment contains all the users of the CDP, mark it Yes, otherwise No.

  5. Description: Give a brief about the segment. It should have at least should have 6 words.

Step 4: Apply Rules

  1. Add Dimension: Dimensions are the parameters or rules on which the segmentation happens. For example, Last Page Visited, Existing Health Insurance User, etc. Contact your dedicated Lemnisk campaign manager to add more dimensions.

  2. Choose Operator:

  • Numbers/ String

    a. Equals: Checks if the source value is equal to the input.

    b. Not Equals: Checks if the source value is not equal to the input.

    c. Contains: Checks if the source contains the input value.

    d. Not Contains: Checks if the source doesn't contain the input value.

  • Time a. After: Tracks the time after HH:MM:SS Zzzz

    b. Before: Tracks the time before HH:MM:SS Zzzz

The input time format should be HH:MM:SS Zzzz (Zzzz denotes the time zone in the following format: (+/-)HH:MM, for example, input for 8:15 PM in India is 20:15:00+05:30). The time you set in the input will be compared as a time-of-the-day value, on a daily basis, with the time value in the dimension.

An example of a time-based rule in segmentation: I want to target users who landed on the product page before noon, with a proposal form link via Email.

Sample Rule: visit_timestamp before 12:00:00+05:30

  • Date

    a. Before - where the provided date is before the source date.

    b. After - where the provided date is after the source date.

    c. On - The provided date is the same as the source date.

  1. Set a value: Assign a value to the applied dimension.

  2. Apply/Delete a rule: Click on the check icon to apply the rule or the delete icon to delete a particular rule.

At least one rule is required to create a segment.

Step 5: Inspect your Segment Audience Check the right side of the Applied Rules palette to view the Segment Audience and Reachability.

The eye icon (👁️) adjacent to Segment Audience depicts the channels through which your audience is reachable and the number of users you can target via different channels.

Check the Segment Audience after each rule is applied.

Step 6: Add Rule/Group

  • To add a rule, click on Add Rule and follow the same process.

  • To implement a grouped rule click on Group Rule and use AND/OR logic, similar to the rules. You can add multiple groups and a sub-group to a group as per your use case.
