Facebook Export Channel

This document talks about the requirements from the client to set up Facebook Export Channel.

Introduction

Facebook Export channel helps the clients set up segments on Lemnisk UI and export them to their respective business managers in real time.

Setup Guide

Method 1: Access Token

To enable Facebook Export as a channel, Lemnisk would require the following details:

  • Access Token

  • Ad Account ID

Following are the steps to generate and manage access tokens:

If a token is already available, please skip the Access Token process.

Access Token

To generate the System User’s Access token, we’ll need a Business Type App.

If you already have a Business Type App, you can directly skip to Generate System User’s Access Token. If not, follow the steps given below to create an App first.

Steps to Create an APP:

  • On Facebook Business Manager, navigate to the Apps > Add Button > Select Create a new App ID.

  • Select Business as the App Type and click Next

  • Provide the appropriate Display Name, and App contact email and click on Create App.

The next step would be to create a System User. If you already have a System User, skip to Steps to Generate Access Token.

Steps to Generate System User’s Access Token:

  • On the Facebook Business Settings page, navigate to Users > System Users > Add, type the appropriate name and select Admin as the user role.

Steps to Generate Access Token:

  • Under the System Users tab, select the Admin System User and then click Generate new token. Select Business App from the dropdown.

  • Select read_insights, ads_read, and ads_management from the list of Available Permissions and then click Generate AccessToken.

  • Copy the Access token shown in the dialogue box and share it with the Lemnisk team.

Once the token is generated, save it as it won’t be visible on the UI later.

Ad Account ID

  • Navigate to Business Settings > Accounts > Ad Accounts.

  • Select the Ad Account and share the associated account ID.

Method 2: Partner Access

Pre-requisites

Step 1: Share Facebook Business Partner Information

Step 2: Accept Partner Request

Once we receive the above information, Lemnisk will send a Partner Request. You need to accept the request and share the Ad Account asset with Lemnisk.

Step 3: Share Ad Account Assets with Lemnisk

  1. Once you accept the Partner Request, you should see Lemnisk in the list of partners. Click on the Partner and click on Share Assets.

  2. Select Ad accounts in Asset Type and select the asset you would like to share.

  3. In Full Control, enable the Manage Ad Account and click on Save Changes

Facebook Channel Setup at Lemnisk

You first have to create an engagement to set up Facebook notifications. Let's create an engagement.

  • Navigate to Lemnisk > Activate drop-down> Channels. The Channel Summary tab opens by default.

  • Then, click +Add Engagement. A Create an Engagement pop-up appears.

  • Now, select a segment from the Select Segment drop-down.

  • Click Confirm and proceed to the next step.

  • In the General Settings section, type the engagement name in the Engagement Name text box.

  • Check the box and select one of the export options to define your export.

  • From the Select Label drop-down, select the label.

  • Click Save. Your engagement is created successfully and will appear under the Facebook Export tab.

  • You can activate/deactivate the engagement any time using the toggle switch, under the Status column.

The user identifiers help you find existing users by collecting their information such as email, mobile number, etc. Facebook hashes this information and then matches it with the profiles of your customers so that you can advertise to them.

To further ease the process, you can use macros that record and automate repetitive tasks in Lemnisk.

  • The Exported Audience will have the same name as the Engagement Name.

  • The user will be automatically removed from the audience once the user moves out of the segment.

  • An option will be provided to Set an Expiry(TTL) to flush the user from the Audience.

External ID

Facebook External ID (external_id) is a unique identifier that helps in representing a user from other systems. With the help of External ID, you can create different types of custom audiences on Facebook and improve match rates across channels. You can read more about the benefits of External ID here.

Lemnisk helps you export Lemnisk User ID (viz_cookie_id) as a unique user identifier for every user to Facebook in the form of Facebook's external_id . You can even select a different variable in case you would like to use your own user identifier.

Facebook Pixel ID is required to run external ID use cases efficiently.

Steps to export External ID to Facebook via Lemnisk:

  1. Click on the "External ID" checkbox under "User Identifiers" while creating a Facebook Export engagement.

  2. Check the "Lemnisk User ID" to send the unique user ID to Facebook.

  3. If you wish to send your own user ID which is stored in the user profile, you can select it by choosing the appropriate variable from the "Select Macro" dropdown.

As the campaign is hosted on the Facebook UI, we would not be taking ownership of the performance and reporting.

Journey Builder Support

Facebook Export as a channel can be only used as the last node in the user journey.

Supported Audience Exports

Only Export of User Identifiers is supported in Journey Builder as Segment Tagging would require the user to come back to the website.
